Citizen Men's CB0020-50E World Perpetual A-T Watch

Watch Review:

Citizen Men's CB0020-50E

It has been said that the only accessory a man needs is a nice wristwatch.  I've recently been inspired to take a second look at a quality timepiece.

My last three timepieces were all Fossil watches bought at some special occasion like my birthday or anniversary.  Sadly only one of those watches are surviving today.  I pulled it out of some forgotten drawer a few days ago, I realized why I had conveniently forgotten to wear it more often.  The battery is dead, and the watch has more scratches than a cat's scratching post.  However, it does carry some long ago sentiment worthy of at least a $10 battery replacement.  The time has come for a watch with some lasting power and use as an everyday piece.

Now, the range of watches in this world numbers in the thousands.  Out of chaos I quickly found order.  The Citizen CB0020-50E.  Before I get ahead of myself let me tell you about the brand known as Citizen.  First of all, it is a Japanese company specializing in Japanese Quartz movements and all its newer watches feature a technology known as Eco-Drive. Essentially a solar powered panel in a watch, Eco-drive allows Citizen watches to harness the power of light for charging the internal battery.  For a company founded in 1918 it is surprisingly advanced.

The CB0020-50E takes a great company with great technology and goes to the next level.  It features atomic timekeeping and perpetual calendar until the year 2100 a.d..

Every evening in the wee hours of the morning the watch looks for whatever timezone I'm in and pulls down the correct atomic time.  Why is this important?  Well even with a quartz watch your timepiece can lose or gain five seconds everyday.  An atomic watch keeps those five seconds at bay and gives you up to the second accuracy.  Even the local weatherman is not as accurate.  When someone asks, what time is it? Answer with confidence because its accurate.  I can imagine the upcoming conversations due to my purchase of this excellent timepiece:

Confused mortal:  Excuse me good sir...
do you happen to know about what time it is?
Me: Yes I do. It is exactly 1:31pm EST.
Confused mortal: You sound very confident, are you sure?
Me: I don't think so, I know so.  Have a good day citizen.

Tagline as I fade down the street.
Have no fear Watchman is on the scene!

Er... back to reality.  The watch also features a sapphire crystal which has a hardness of nine.  This means you won't scratch the face except with a diamond or another sapphire.  You don't have those laying around do you?

The watch also comes with a metal bracelet but I decided to swap it out to a NATO strap for durability.  I'm pleased with the outcome overall and think for an everyday watch this one has durability and style written all over it.

Bottom Line: I recommend this watch. If you are looking for a quality piece I highly recommend this.

UPDATE: After a fresh battery install this week my Fossil will be on display as a reminder of the occasion for which it was gifted.
